Position Statement and Future Directions

  • IEEE Region 11 Alignment: I am committed to creating new opportunities for volunteers and elevating the India Council members to serve IEEE Regions 11/10 and MGA.
  • I will continue to initiate projects using AI tools to assess local community needs and secure funding from IEEE and other sources to increase IEEE’s presence.
  • Entrepreneurship development will be a key focus, establishing ‘Entrepreneurship Coordinators’ at Student Branches, and working with “Startup India” to create impactful partnerships across IEEE Sections and Society Chapters with ‘Make in India’ Programme.
  • I will collaborate with Sections to elevate the quality of IEEE conferences.
  • A special working group will be formed to address Sustainability and AI challenges.

Position Statement of IEEE India Council 

 

Given a chance to be on lEEE India Council Chair Elect 2025, I would like to:

  • Conduct skilling workshops for spreading awareness of IEEE and better engagement/ retention model.
  • Enrich and enhance value: Bringing more flagship events of societies and region which will provide more visibility to India Council and lEEE Sections in India.
  • Tie up and collaboration with Government machinery at central level to take IEEE India council to be voice of technocrats and having say in governance and also by Bringing industries at forefront along with academicia.
  • Bringing more transparency and strengthening governance and to provide equal opportunities at all levels.

 

Short BIO

Dr Preeti Bajaj is an electronics engineer, graduated in 1991, post graduated in 1993 in  Management Degree and Master of Engineering in Electronics with specialization in (digital Techniques and Instrumentation) in 1998, doctorate in Electronics Engineering in 2004. With 32 years of rich experience of administrative, academic and research experience, she served as Vice Chancellor of two leading universities- Lovely Professional University Punjab and Galgotias University Uttar Pradesh. Earlier she served as Director of an autonomous institute, G. H. Raisoni College of Engineering Nagpur,  mentor Director of GHRCEM Pune, officiating VC of GHRU Madhya Pradesh and many others.

Currently she is Director General of KIET Group of Institutions. 

 

Her professional society affiliation includes Fellow-Institute of Engineers, Fellow IETE, Senior Member- IEEE. She is an active IEEE volunteer for more than 25  years and has executed many leadership roles of IEEE in India and abroad which includes Chair-Education Activities Committee IEEE Region10 – Asia Pacific, Vice Chair for IEEE Asia Pacific, BoG of HKN IEEE USA, BOG Education Society etc. 

 

14 scholars have completed their PhD under her supervision and she is a PhD examiner at many universities. She has co-authored three book chapters and co-inventor for 8 patents, 150 plus publications having citations 1400 plus, an H-index ratio of 19 & i10-Index ratio of 37. She has been very instrumental in the design and development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) systems in the public and commercial sectors such as toll collecting, toll audit, highway traffic management system, and Advanced Traveler Information Systems (AITS) with soft/hybrid computing, intelligent systems, and applications of fuzzy logic. Her major contribution is in designing and developing driver assistance systems like driver fatigue detection system, driver’s action and emotion detection system, driver’s behavior modeling and applying hybrid fuzzy/genetic/PSO to various ITS.

 

She is known researcher in Computer Sciences in HMS (Human machine Systems). Her expertise is in Computational intelligence(AI), Intelligent transportation system, Education data mining and disruptive technologies.  Her current interest is applying data science to education data mining, agriculture, biomedical and transportation applications. Spreading AI and ethics and setting up biomedical device technology business incubators and conducting national and International hackathons. 

 

She is India’s first few Master Trainers in Outcome Based Education in the country and very active and guided number of institutions on accreditations NAAC and NBA. She was on global committee of accreditations for 2016-2017. She was ABET PEV for 2009 in CSAB. She is NAAC assessor as Chairman and also was on General Council of NBA New Delhi from 2013-2016. Her expertise is into accreditations and rankings, internationalizations, streamlining reforms in academics examinations through interdisciplinary education, activity-based examinations, outcome-based education. She has trained more than 2000 faculty members in different verticals like research, OBE, academic processes, etc. She has also been recognized as a resource person by the NBA for creating awareness of Outcome Based Education and OBA and also is an Ex-member of the General Council of the NBA.

 

Under her leadership, GHRCE has been awarded Autonomy, three cycles of NBA accreditation to all 8 UG programmes and 12 PG programs, NAAC accreditation with an A Grade, reaccreditation with 3.51, TEQIP 1 Grant of INR 10 Cr and TEQIP 2 grant of INR 6 Cr, ARIIA Ranking – pan India 2nd, 12B, SIRO, Nidhi TBI and many more. A few flagship programs like GHR Connect, GHR Career Connect, Ignite, AI Summit, and Smart City Summit reached out to all corners of India. She has achieved many of the milestones in NAAC A+, NIRF Rankings for many institutes, 30 Crores plus grants viz: DST-NIDHI-TBI, AICTE-Magradarshan, UGC-Paramarsh, World Bank-TEQIP-I & II, ARIIA Ranking, Indian Patent Rankings during her leadership roles in various academic institutions. She was instrumental to bring First amongst affiliated colleges PAN India BTech in AI

 

During her tenure at Galgotias University, Dr Bajaj could bring a substantial increase in the NIRF Ranking, she was instrumental to get NAAC A+ (3.37), 12 B, SIRO recognition by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), NBA of Pharmacy and Management accreditation, reaccreditation of three engineering programs, She also was very effective in the creation of academic processes, SOPs and mandates. Under her able guidance, the university could sign 200 MOUs (national & international), and collaborate with industries. She has set up a Fab lab, incubator, and executed Toycothon and hardware hackathons and mentored more than 100 start-ups on the campus. She has streamlined admissions, Academics, ERP, NCC, NSS, Examination and research processes, set up RAC and streamlined the PhD processes and policies. She was instrumental in getting Gu as Center for Toycothon (only Institute in UP and one amongst 6 in the country), Hardware hackathon, online programs, NEP adoption and many more. With her rigorous efforts on branding for 3 years, Galgotias university is known as the fastest-growing university of Central India. Her consistent efforts have taken the university into the top 10 patent files in the country.

 

Galgotias and GHRCE achieved great milestones and is still continuing with the broad vision that she has set.

 

Her passion is to connect Research labs, industry, institutions and the community in one place and bring need-based innovations through technology for students by students which resulted in the establishment of four COE in Biomedical, AI-ML, Data Science, design, Intelligent Transportation, Additive manufacturing etc. 

 

She is the founder, General Chair of ICETET series of 11 IEEE conferences. She was invited to deliver talks and present her research work in countries like Singapore, Hong Kong, the UK, Japan, Malaysia, Mauritius, and the USA. Her efforts have turned 208 projects into patents, transforming a private engineering institution into India’s premier Engineering and Research Institutes. Her efforts took the regional institutions to be featured in the Annual report of the Indian Patent Office 8 times, being one of the top 10 patent filers in the country (GHRCE Nagpur and Galgotias University). She has chaired many sessions in international conferences in India & abroad. Dr Bajaj is known for bringing reforms to the educational system in Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh and her experiments in autonomy. She has been advocating for Outcome based Education approach in every process in the campus, project-based learning, Education 4.0, blended learning, AI for everyone. She was on the Global committee of accreditations for 2016-2017. 

She is a tech lady, putting all her energy into nurturing systems and processes in HEI, especially creating ecosystem for research, innovations and entrepreneurship that sets the roadmap for Ranking and Accreditations.
